Helyx FL Chapter | AP Jumpstart Program | AP Physics 1

    Welcome!

This course, created by the Florida chapter of the Helyx Initiative, is a 4-week accelerated program for the Advanced Placement AP Physics 1 course, which will cover the essentials and give you a rundown of the first semester to help you transition into the school year better.

Instructors: Meryl Liu, Mrunmayi Joshi, Srikar Chandaluri

Office Hours: This is the time to ask questions about the content and get help. During live sessions, we will also be doing cool reviews, such as Kahoot. Schedule an appointment with any of the instructors, by (1) emailing us, (2) direct messaging us through Discord, (3) or mentioning the physics helper role in #office-hour-requests. We can help at any time in this method. We will also be hosting google meets sessions live on:

    • Tuesday: 12 PM – 1 PM EST
    • Thursday: 11 AM-12 PM EST

    Course Description & Calendar

This is an accelerated crash course for the College Board AP Physics 1 Curriculum and Exam. In four weeks we will be covering all the units of AP Physics 1. Physics is the oldest scientific discipline to exist, and from its study of the laws governing the natural world, we can build upon it all other scientific disciplines.

    Week Units

    Week 1

    Unit 1: Introduction, Kinematics

    Week 2

    Unit 2: Dynamics (Forces, Machines)

    Week 3

    Unit 3: Energy

    Unit 4: Linear Momentum

    Week 4

    Unit 5: Circular Motion

Lectures and notes will be uploaded throughout the week along with practice assignments/quizzes when applicable. For pertinent questions, feel free to attend office hours or expect a response to email and messaged questions within 24-48 hrs.

Welcome to Week 1 of Helyx Florida's AP Calculus AB Jumpstart Program! Taught by peers and led by peers!

Due to some technical issues, Physics 1 Week 1 curricula will be available on Tuesday, Aug 4 (we apologize for the delay!) In this first week, we will be covering foundations of Physics, including a review of conversions, dimensional analysis, units and kinematics.

Since physics is an extensive course covering a lot of conceptual info, different scenarios and practice problems, we will only go into about 50% of the AP curriculum: this should NOT be your exclusive source of information as this is an accelerated zero-academic-credit 4-week course, and due to the pacing, some information relevant to the AP exam may be left out.

As such, Jumpstart AP is NOT sufficient for self-studiers: it should be a head start providing a small foundation to complement a class you will take soon or other extensive resources you are studying.

If you have any questions or concerns any time during the program, feel free to contact Meryl, Mrunmayi or Srikar (Discord, office hours, or email information on the course syllabus); we will respond within 48 hours of your inquiry. Good luck! (P.S. during the week, you may see updates in future units. These units will not be fully updated until 8:00AM EST August 10, 2020!)
